John D. Douglass

John D. Douglass passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3rd 2024, in Malvern, Ohio. He was born to parents John I. Douglass Jr. and Marian Douglass (Myers) on October 5, 1962. John grew up with his brother Bob in Bunker Hill, Indiana. After High School, John joined the Airforce where he served as a Staff Sargent for 10 years. After an honorable discharge, he moved to Southwest Florida where he had a long career in HVAC, primarily servicing the Sanibel Island Community. John met his wife Tanya in December of 2012 after a neighborly holiday cookie exchange. He immediately fell for her and her 3 children Owen, Natashia and James. After 2 years of swearing to never get married, they were wed on Valentine’s Day in 2015. He fell in love again with the birth of his granddaughter Elaina in 2016 and grandson Matthew in 2020. He collected many things in life including Hot Wheels, vintage Thor, coins, and Star Trek memorabilia. John was well known for his unique sense of fashion including jorts, character t-shirts, and Sketcher tennis shoes. His array of terrible dad jokes were legendary. John had a 1000-watt smile that always lit up the room and those around him. Unfortunately, sometimes the happiest people on the outside mask the deepest pain. His departure will forever leave a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him. His family and friends will be forever changed by the loss of such a bright light. He was preceded in death by his parents, John I. Douglass Jr. and Marian Douglass (Myers). He is survived by his wife; Tanya Douglass, his bonus children; Owen Quinn, Natashia (Douglas) Redman, and James Post. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Elaina Post and Matthew Redman. He is also survived by his younger brother Robert (Janet) Douglass, nephew Alex Blais and bonus roommate Joshua Forsyth. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton with Pastor Cynthia Hervey officiating and military honors. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
