John H. Maggar went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 3 where he will be forever in peace. He was born in Wolf Run, Ohio a son of the late John Maggar and Anna Kostelnik Maggar. John’s family will always remember him as hard working, kind, and a gentleman. He spent 32 years as a coalminer working first at the Jensie Coal Mine and the remaining 32 years at Y&O Coal Mine No. 2 in Hopedale, Ohio. He loved to listen to Elvis, work in the yard and trim the hedges at night. Not a day went by without him saying, “Honey, it will be okay, everything will work out.” He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Renee Ann in 1965; brothers, Johnny Maggar, Andy Matta, Bill Matta, Albert Matta, Joe Matta; and sisters, Anna Farris, Mary Farris, Helen Piatko, and Elizabeth Matta. John is survived by his beautiful and loving wife, Jerri McCartney Maggar, of 58 years; sons, John H. (Beth) Maggar Jr., Troy Lee (fiancée Mary Beth) Maggar; daughter, Penny Lynn (Blake) Galbraith; grandchildren, Jenny, Renee, Troy, B.J. (Blake), Boomer (John), Kassie; great grandchildren, Caleb, Savannah, Stephanie, and Miles; sisters-in-laws, Betty Matta and Marg Matta; many loving nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart; and special friends, Kenny Smith, Bridget Feaster, Ronnie and Robin Boggess. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 4 p.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
