Ruth Morris Weir

Ruth Morris Weir, 87, of Carrollton passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, in her home, surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late William Albert and Iva Lewton Morris, she was born June 7, 1924 in Elkton, Ohio. Ruth attended Fairmont One Room School for eight years before attending both Lisbon and Fairfield Centralized High Schools, graduating from Fairfield Centralized. She was a basketball player during her senior year of high school. After graduation she attended and graduated from Columbus Business College. Prior to marriage she worked as a secretary for Floyd Lower, Agriculture Agent at Columbiana County Extension office. A devout Christian, she was a longtime member of Corinth Presbyterian Church in Mechanicstown where she was an assistant pianist, member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a 4H advisory for Little Women, life member of the Carroll Historical Society, Blossom Country Dancers, and the Republican Booster Club. She had been a precinct worker on election day for Washington Township. In her younger years Ruth enjoyed all aspects of homemaking, gardening, playing cards with good friends, and attending plays and musicals. She was an avid traveler with her husband throughout most of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, also Europe, Nova Scotia, and the Panama Canal. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who loved her children unconditionally. Along with her husband, John Weir, whom she married June 29, 1945, she is survived by four children, Alan (Leanna) Weir, Tom (Kitty) Weir, Barbara Polburn, Vicki (Dwight) Roseler; nine grandchildren, Cynthia (Tony) Leslie, Klint Weir, Bobbi Jo Weir, Summer Marie (Dave) Kish, Jarod (Rachel) Polburn, Jennifer (Joshua) Placeway, Sarah Roseler, Jonathan Roseler, Anna Marie Roseler; four great grandchildren, LeaEllen Leslie, Alec Kish, Olivia Kish, Dylan Kish. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Weir, and brother, Roy Morris. Funeral services will be Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Virginia Birks officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicstown Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral Friday morning. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Corinth Presbyterian Church in Mechanicstown, Ohio.
