Helen McCloskey Grady

Helen McCloskey Grady, 88, of Bucyrus, formerly of Amsterdam was called home to our Father God in Heaven on, September 20, 2014. Helen was born in Wolf Run, Ohio to Frank and Mary (Horivat) McCloskey. On July 4, 1952, she married Hobart Martin Grady, whom preceded her in death September 21, 1988. Also preceding her in death was a brother Frank McCloskey of Amsterdam, Mary (McCloskey) Hafner of Minerva, and John McCloskey of Pennsylvania. Helen worked as a waitress in Pennsylvania as a young woman, at Thompson Products, Minerva Pottery, and a nurse’s aide at the Alliance Hospital. Helen was a full time wife and mother until she became a bus driver for the East Springfield School System in Jefferson County. Helen retired from busing in 1994. During her retirement Helen traveled and shared herself with her children. Helen loved flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting, sewing, plastic needlepoint (making her own patterns by sight and her mind). She loved crossword puzzles, bingo, and all kinds of animals. Helen especially loved going to Amish Country, Lake Erie, Christmas lights, petting zoos, and lots of other outings with the Orchard Park Activity Group. Helen also enjoyed watching Christian shows and soap operas. Helen loved her family with all of her heart; she also loved her extended family at Orchard Park. Helen is survived by brothers, David (Nora) McCloskey of Amsterdam, Jimmy McCloskey of Amsterdam, Benny (Shirley) McCloskey of Amsterdam, Tony McCloskey of Steubenville, Mildred Willis of California, Dorothy Alkire of California,Joseph (Florence) McCloskey of Amsterdam; her children Judy Reed of California, Lena and Wilbur “Willy” Lautzenheiser of Bucyrus, Wanda McClelland of Amsterdam, Sandy Grady of Bergholz, Mandy (John) Lemmons of North Dakota, Hobart “Hobie” (Vicki) Grady of Nevada, Ohio; Thirteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam with Pastor Bill Grimes officiating. Burial will follow at Bergholz Cemetery, Bergoholz, Ohio. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in Dodds Funeral Home of Amsterdam.
